Life's A Beach!

It's hard to believe that Summer has slipped into Fall but I have to admit the crisp days with no humidity are delightful. Lucy is especially happy as she can resume her beach walks. As with a lot of coastal areas, dogs on the beach are a no-no during the summer months.

One of Lucy's most favorite beach pastimes is seagull chasing! She can't get into too much trouble as she is leashed but she loves to 'charge' a flock just to see them suddenly take off in unison!

In the off season, the beach area becomes a popular exercise spot for dog owners and pets alike, however, I think the latter consider it a Canine Social Club! It's fascinating to watch the interactions between dogs but I have to tell you, and Lucy agrees some pooches are better left just walking on by!

All too soon the daylight will shorten and the ocean breezes will be replaced by chilling winds but for now Lucy can frolic in the sand and rest assured that Life's a Beach!

One lucky dog!

Lucy Presents...My Favorite Things!

Ahem!...here we go...best enjoyed while humming
"My Favorite Things"

Long walks in summer and rubs on my belly
Scraps from the table and meat from the deli
Lilly and Molly and 'Mom' when she sings
These are a few of my favorite things

Riding in Dad's truck and going for ice cream
Taking a long nap and having a dog dream
All of my 'babies' and my ball that I fling
These are a few of my favorite things

Getting a dog treat for tricks that I'm doing
A new Nylabone please, my favorite for chewing
Company's coming and the goodies they bring
These are a few of my favorite things

When the cats sleep
When Mom's busy
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I feel sooooo glad!

Thank you!

Rub A Dub Dub!

One thing with Lucy is she tends to be high maintenance. With Doodles I think it depends if they lean more toward the Retriever or more toward the Poodle. Lucy seems to favor the Golden Retriever, as her hair lacks the tight curls of a Poodle.

When her coat is fully grown in, Lucy needs to be brushed twice a day...that's why I love her summer haircut! Don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining and definately not trying to dissuade anyone from owning a Goldendoodle...bathing and grooming are part of the fun of having a wonderful pet.

Lucy gets professionaly trimmed a couple of times a year during the summer months, the rest is up to me. The first time I gave her a bath, it was hard to tell which one of us was suppose to be the recipient. Lucy was soaked, I was soaked, and the bathroom was soaked!

After a few more bath days, Lucy started to enjoy it and began to get in the tub by herself and I no longer needed to hang on to her for dear life in fear of her bolting in favor of dry land. The only catch to the whole experience...I have to sing! Yes...sing! and not just any song. During her shampoo and rinse I have to serenade her with the oldie Stay (Just a Little Bit Longer). I don't remember half of the words so I make them up adding Lucy's name frequently...

...the silly things our dogs talk us into!
