A Double Standard

As I mentioned in an earlier blog “Driving Miss Lucy”, Lucy loves to go for a ride, a lot of people enjoy having their dog as co-pilot and no one gives it a second thought.

Now, cats on the other hand are a whole different story! A few years ago, in what I now think was a moment of temporary insanity, I decided to take Lilly with me on a quick ride to the drug store to pick up a prescription at the drive up window. The store was less than a mile from the house, so no big deal, right?

I plunked Lilly, much to her surprise, in the front seat, started the engine and backed down the driveway. Lilly, who could be the poster cat for curiosity, seemed delighted as she checked out the interior of my car. It wasn’t until I actually got almost to the store that ‘feline hysteria’ reared its ugly head!

I’ve driven through ice, snow and fog. I've endured driving with screaming kids and back seat drivers but this was a first... a bouncing, clawing, howling cat...in a car with no cat carrier!

Being closer to the store than home, I pushed on, and pulled into the drive thru, all the while coaxing Lilly to be calm. As the clerk shoved the drawer towards my car window, I hoped she wouldn’t notice the deranged cat sprawled on top of the back seat. “You’re the first person I ever saw driving a cat!” she announced loudly, handing me my purchase.

A few minutes later, after most of her co-workers had checked out the ‘wacky lady and her cat’, we were off, and within moments of being home Lilly was back to her ‘princess’ self, none the worse for her adventure.

I’m so glad we moved and I don’t have to go back to that pharmacy!

You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby!

On a recent snowy weekend, I was going through some computer files and came across some pictures of Lucy when she was just a puppy. I'm so grateful that my dear friend that gave us Lucy also sent me her 'baby' pictures.

This is how Lucy looked when I first met her, never dreaming that a few months later she would become an important part of our family.

It's hard to believe that this year Lucy will be three years old and just like when our kids were little the time flies by! Unlike kids, thank goodness...no college tuition, big weddings or handing over the car keys!

Lucy is quite content with a Nylar Bone, a new squeaky toy and once in a while a doggie dish of ice cream...and of course she's not spoiled!

Lucy today.

Life In The Slow Lane

Today on the Mountain we have endured snow, sleet, freezing rain, ice and fog. Lucy, Lilly and Molly seem to be in a winter weather funk. Maybe they remember the ice storm of a couple weeks ago, maybe it's light deprivation, maybe it's just my imagination!

Lucy passed the dreary afternoon watching one of her favorite movies. There's nothing like a good doggie flick to brighten up the day! Please pass the popcorn.

Lilly opted for a cat nap on the window perch. This is probably her most favorite place to sleep other than in our bed!

Wanting to be included in any and all activities, Molly sat on my lap and assisted in editing blog photos!

New Year's Resolutions

On New Year's Eve I watched Lucy sleeping so peacefully in her new dog bed and I wondered if she were to make New Year's Resolutions what would they be.

I Lucy resolve not to chase Molly around the house at 100 miles an hour. I resolve not to eat the cat's food. I resolve not to try and sneak Lilly's cat toy away from her. Oh, and my number one resolution; NEVER EVER let my 'mom' put those antlers on me again!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
